The MMKA presents Female Power an exhibition showcasing female power and strength. From ceramic breasts and an installation with woven suits of armor to photographs of legendary Japanese fisherwomen, more and more contemporary artists are creating new depictions of women. Their work joins that of artists from the 1970s and 1980s whose positive images of women contributed to female empowerment.
Collaboration and related programming
Coinciding with Female Power, the Stichting FemArt Museum in Amsterdam will be exhibiting Gott Weiblich (Bijbels [Biblical] Museum) and Venus figurines from prehistory to classical antiquity (Allard Pierson Museum). A symposium will be organized in collaboration with the Radboud University Nijmegen.
